How To Break a Sweat and Burn Calories
First, before I get into my main purpose for this post, I just have to give you a quick weight update. I lost another pound! That’s 12 so far. I promised myself I wouldn’t share this here today, because what if I gain that back before Monday’s weigh in? But I can’t not share. So there it is.
So anyway, I had a few hours alone this morning. No kids. No husband. Just me. Now, what I really needed to do was write. But I decided to take a break from the computer and enjoy my quiet time while I had it.
And just what did I decide to do? Wash my car…in the 90 degree heat. I must have lost my mind.
Let me just tell you…I am not an outdoors girl. Well, I love sitting on the front porch swing. Or walking late in the evening, or early in the morning. But don’t even think about making me go outside in the middle of the day when it’s sweltering hot. My sisters pick at me all the time because I don’t like to sweat. They wrap up in blankets when they come over and complain that it’s too cold in my house. (They’re the crazy ones. Just because the babies have snot-cicles by the time they leave, that doesn’t mean it’s too cold in my house….right?)
That’s just how I am. And that’s probably why I’ve never exercised much. Which is why it’s been so hard for me to lose weight quicker. (I’m getting sidetracked again.)
So back to the car washing bit…
We have love bugs something horrible here. And they make a nasty mess all over the windshield, side mirrors, and front bumper. I’ve been told the residue they leave will strip the paint off your car, so I try to keep my vehicle cleaned as often as possible during the summer when they’re bad.
I don’t think I’ve sweat that much in a while. I had sweat dripping off the tip of my nose, even. Ewww! I hated every minute of it. But by the time I finished washing the outside and cleaning the inside of my car, I’d become one with the sweat.
So now I am (trying to) adopting a new mantra. And it goes something like this…
Sweat is my friend.
*shudder* I still don’t like to sweat. But sweating is actually good for the weight loss progress, that much I do know. So if I must sweat, at least I was doing something else productive in the meantime. Maybe all my hard work can count for some amount of exercise today? :)
