Weight Loss Tip #4 - Use Sugar Free Coffee Creamer

by Hope Wilbanks on June 21st, 2008

sugar free coffee creamer Are you a coffee drinker? Do you love creamer in your coffee?

I love flavored creamers. They’re my favorite. But they also come with a huge price–loaded with sugar and calories. Up to this point, I’ve sacrificed other things (like skipping breakfast) just so I could indulge in the sweet treat of Italian Cream, White Chocolate Macadamia Nut, and Creme Brulee coffee creamer.

I finally made a very difficult decision to switch to sugar free coffee creamer. Our Wal-Mart only carries two flavors of sugar free creamer: French Vanilla and Hazelnut. While I do like anything hazelnut flavored, it gets old after a while. But I decided to buckle down and stick with the sugar free hazelnut coffee creamer for now.

I have to tell you that it does make a huge difference. On my Weight Watchers Flex Point plan, I’ve slashed my coffee points per day from 6-8 to 2! I’m a big coffee drinker, and as you can see, just making this one little change made a huge difference.

I LOVE flavored coffee creamers so I can really relate! I too have cut out other things to keep my creamer. It took me a long time to switch from the International Delight French Vanilla to the fat free Coffeemate French Vanilla! Now you have me pondering the sugar free version.

Did you notice a big taste difference? And do you think the switch is worth it?

I don’t know if I’ve tried the fat free, but the sugar free creamers have a “thinner” consistency and aren’t quite as rich in taste. Still, it gives me the flavor I need with my coffee.

I have to warn you to look at the labels, too. I switched from Coffeemate to International Delight this past week (only b/c I loathe Coffeemate’s lid’s–they’re too messy!) and was pretty mad when I saw that I.D.’s sugar-free Hazlenut has more calories and 2 grams of fat per serving! If you’re doing WW, Coffeemate’s is 0 points per serving, but I.D.’s is 1 point per serving. Thumb’s down for that. :( So even though I don’t like Coffeemate’s messy flip lid, I’ll be going back to that brand to save the points.

A lot of times, I’ve noticed that the low-fat items have more calories and more bad “stuff” in them than the regular items - whether it be muffins, sandwiches or even salad dressings!

Very true, Ellie! I’ve even started paying attention to things like the sugar content, too.
