Product Review: Low-Fat Vanilla Silk
I almost didn’t post this because I figured I’m probably the last person on the face of the earth to try soy milk. But I’m going to give my quick review of this anyway, just in case there’s someone else who hasn’t tried it.
I bought a box of Silk for one reason that had nothing to do with me trying to lose weight. For a couple of years now, every time I drink milk it gives me major problems. It’s almost like it sours immediately on my stomach. I get reflux really bad. I’ve never had any milk allergies, so I don’t really know why this is happening all of a sudden.
So anyway, I’ve been thinking about trying soy milk. I like to eat cereal every now and then but haven’t been able to because of my milk issues. So I grabbed a box of the Vanilla Low-Fat Silk yesterday.
I have to tell you, just the word “soy” put with “milk” puts a little twinge in my mouth. I was really afraid to try it. So I thought I’d give it a go with some cereal. I figured a test run in a bowl of cereal might not be that bad.
It’s actually pretty good…I think. It had a sweet taste to it, but I’m assuming that’s because I got the Vanilla one. I didn’t have any of the adverse side effects I’ve been experiencing with regular milk. Best of all, it has half the Weight Watchers points as a cup of 2% milk. I might get brave enough today to try drinking a cup of Silk alone. :)

Hope, welcome to the dark side!! Ha, just kidding. Soy milk is the only milk product in our apt - just because neither hubby or I like the idea of milk, and recent news about human growth hormones, etc, just made soy milk a much more palatable option for our cereal.
I love the vanilla, plain is a little too bland for me. If you’re feeling really adventurous, mix together some chocolate soymilk, a banana, and 2 tbsps of peanut butter and some ice for a protein jolt. I don’t think it should cost you too much in points and it really does fill you up for the rest of the morning/afternoon.
Best wishes,

Good for you! I’m glad you think you like it ;)
Soy milk is all I drink (as far as milk goes, that is, haha) - back when I decided to become a vegetarian, I made the mistake of going vegan first. At that time, I had no idea how drastic a life change it was (which is what inevitably led to just becoming a vegetarian for now, haha). Anyway, by the time I realized that becoming vegan was something I was going to have to work at (and not just wake up one morning and “be”) I’d already given up milk for good. So, I stuck with it. For almost a year now I’ve used soy milk in everything (cereal, recipes, coffee - which I don’t recommend using it with coffee, haha). Sometimes I prefer the vanilla; sometimes I prefer the plain.
However, if I’m just going to sit around and drink it? The chocolate soy milk all the way! It’s delicious! Try it and let me know what you think if you do.

Thanks for the coffee tip b/c I was planning on trying it in a cup to see what it would taste like. :) I almost got a thing of chocolate soy, too, but I figured I’d better try this first before I spent money on more. ;)

Oooh! That sounds yummy, Gab! I’ll have to give that one a try! Peanut butter isn’t too bad on points so that might be a good mid-day, pick-me-up snack for me. :)
