Welcome to the new weight loss blog at b5media: Weighting Line! I thought I’d post a quick intro to get this blog started.
I’m Hope Wilbanks:
- Mom to 1 daughter and 1 son
- Married for 10 (nearly 11) years
- Writer
- Artist
I’ve struggled with my weight for about 5 years. Before we had our son, I miscarried my second pregnancy. This led to a year-long binge of eating and going for days without food. You’re the first I’ve admitted this to!
When my son was just a few months old, my husband was deployed to Iraq. During the 1-1/2 years he was gone, I finally managed to get control of my weight when I joined Weight Watchers.
About five months after my husband returned home, we moved two states away. During the transition, we lived with one of my sisters for a few weeks while we worked on our rent house. I stopped keeping my food journal. I stopped drinking water and wasn’t as vigilant about what I put inside my body. This resulted not only in me gaining every pound back that I worked so hard to lose the year before, but about 30 more pounds.
Once we were finally settled in our home, the realization of just how much weight I’d put on hit hard. And once again I found myself feeling discouraged and disappointed in myself. Instead of reverting back to my better eating habits I’d learned in Weight Watchers though, I kept eating junk food and packing on the pounds.
At the beginning of last year I went on Atkins. (My old family doctor had recommended it to me when my husband was at war. I’d heard a lot of negative things about Atkins, so that was when I decided to try Weight Watchers.) After just a month, the pounds were quickly slipping off. I was able to put clothes on that I hadn’t worn in years. And then I started having terrible nose bleeds, so I got off Atkins. And again, the pounds started coming back on again.
I’ve decided to get back on Weight Watchers. I’ll be doing it at home. The meetings here aren’t close to home like they were in Tennessee. But I know the regimen and I have all the info I need to follow the plan again. I created a printable food journal, which will go into my small 3-ring binder and make it easier to keep up with what I’m eating during the day.
So as we start this blog, I just wanted to let you–our readers–know that you are not alone. I’m not just any old blogger who will post nonchalant messages about weight loss. I’ll be right there in the trenches with you, working hard to lose weight and get healthy again.
I hope you will find my posts inspirational and helpful. Most importantly, I hope you’ll find this blog a source of hope and encouragement as you lose weight, too.
I plan on doing a weekly weigh-in. This will keep me accountable for my actions, but will hopefully encourage you to get vocal with your weight loss, too. Together we can do this!

Yeah and welcome Hope!!! I also blog about my food journal and weight at diabetesnotes.com and aheartylife.com. As well, 3 kids and a complete hysterectomy, as well as life has left me about 20 pounds heavier and I have been moving in the downward scale, very slowly, I have lost about 10 pounds since the new year, yeah did I say slow. I am diabetic and very, very active as well as an ex division I athlete who is crazy about her diet, so big difference in the activity I was used to my whole life and had to cut any more out of the ol’ diet. But I am trying hard. I wish you luck and I will keep up with all you have to offer. Go team science and health!!!! :)

Welcome aboard, Hope! I think it’s awesome when the blogger is “in the trenches,” as you say and I’m sure you’re going to have lots of great stuff to pass along :) I’m passing this blog along to someone else I know who’s actually just started with Weight Watchers. Good luck and happy blogging!
